Get 'em Quick!

If you haven't downloaded the demos in the Members Area and want to, then you'd better move it - I'm removing them from this section of the webby this weekend. After that, if you want a particular demo, then mail me and I'll send it on to you.

Match Coming Up

Remember we have our first match of the new BWUTL season on Wednesday this week against MORPH. I'll mail the details out this weekend (including our praccy details).

New Season Details Announced

No sooner has the cup finished than the new season's details have been unveiled. I can sum up the changes that affect us in one word: opposition. We remain in Division 3, all the rules from last season stay the same (2x20min games, WeaponStay ON, 50% Friendly Fire etc) and we will play on Wednesday evenings (6 of 7 games with 10pm starts as well). The only difference for us this coming season will be our opposition. This time we face:

FB (Fearsome Beasts)
HSC (Helta-Skelta Crew)
MORPH
RSi
SLH (Satan's Little Helpers)
SPIRIT
V3 (Vort 3x)

Looks like we get a chance to avenge our first week loss last season to Morph this time around :) Also of note, are the appearances of SLH who are more well-known for their Q2 exploits and V3 - a Portuguese clan; this will be MKC's first competitive match against a foreign clan (remember we had a friendly InstaGib match against a mixed German-Dutch clan some time ago).

We kick-off the new season on Wednesday 6th September, 10pm with a game against Morph on the Curse][ and Gothic maps. (Well, would you look at that, our first game last season was against MORPH and on the very same maps as well!).

Actually, speaking about maps, the map rotation for this season is exactly the same as that from last season and I mean exactly: Week 1's maps are the same as last season's Week 1 maps, Week 3's maps are the same as last season's Week 3 maps etc, etc, etc. At least we know what we're in for this time round (ie, no need to wonder what the hell this week's map looks like ;)  ).

I've updated the Matches & Schedule page with our fixtures for this forthcoming season, so go take a look: if you find any games that you don't think you can manage then let me know ASAP so we have a chance to sort something out.

UT Squad Bolstered From Within

In a surprise turn-of-events, our UT Squad was bolstered with the 'arrival' of 2 new UT players from within MKC's ranks -  please welcome [MKC]Ruven and [MKC]SaBBaTH to the UT Squad :)) Ruven is now only playing UT for MKC at the moment (in amongst his CS sessions) whereas SaBBaTH joined MKC to play Q2 but finds herself interested in trying UT. Both are to be applauded for helping 'bail us out' - if we didn't find at least one new player, we would have had to drop from the BWUTL owing to its 5 'active & registered' player rule.

Thanks for joining-up folks and I hope you enjoy your time as part of the MKC UT Squad :)
(I'll sort out something for your member profiles later...oh, and Ruven, if you want to get into the Members Area, you'd better mail me hadn't you? ;)  ).

VOID in Win Shocker

hehe..okay, so I'm being sarcastic :P

We lost the Cup match to VOID, during which they showed how nasty the Shock Rifle can be ;)

By turning up to this, we have secured our place in this season's league competition which should start in about 2 weeks time. Our next problem is personnel: we've lost Hex so we're down to 4 active members. We NEED 5 to qualify to play in the BWUTL. If we don't find one, then we'll have to withdraw from the BWUTL and we'll need to have a discussion to determine the future for UT within MKC.

New Season, New Webby

I've changed the look of the website a fair bit: we'll shortly be starting a new season and I thought it would be nice to give the webby a little makeover. I have to admit though, that the main benefit of this change is to myself - this webby is now a 'helluva' lot easier for me to update; less messing about with poxy font and table settings and having to manually change 500 things when all I want to do is change a letter >;) Oh yeah, before I forget: I still hate Netscape (yup, this webby looks a little 'rough' through Netscape Navigator, apologies to all you NS users). As usual, this isn't the finished article (when is it ever? ;)  ), I'll be tweaking bits and pieces here and there for a while yet I would think.

Cup Match

We have our first match of the new season this Tuesday (15th) at 7:30pm. This isn't the start of the league however, but the BWUTL Cup. In our First Round match, we've been drawn against VOID. This will be the second time that we've drawn VOID in the first round of a cup tournament and also the second time (in a cup) that we've had to play them on the Deck16][ map!!

Fate is a strange thing isn't it?

Last Match Played

Our last match of the season (on Wednesday this week passed), saw us play OTH (the Clan I had predicted would win the division). The Match Reports page is where you would have found the details a few days ago but since I updated the webby, I've removed all the previous match reports apart from the very last one...

A Successful Season?

Answering this question all depends on what you define 'successful' to be. If it means winning the Divisional Title, then, no, it wasn't a successful season. If it means enjoying the participation, the competitiveness, the friendly banter between opposing teams, the feeling of accomplishment as we worked on organising ourselves, then yes, I would say this has been a successful season for MKC in its first full competitive league effort :)

Our Division finished like this:

1st Oh The Humanity [OTH]
2nd The Wrath [TW]
3rd Morph
4th Massive Killing Capacity [MKC]
5th Legend [LGD]
6th Cymru

A 4th place finish is quite respectable given that this is our first season and also that most of the MKC UT Squad don't really play UT outside of praccys and matches.

A 'well-played' goes out to the UT Squad, we've done a good job all things considered (a 'huge' squad of 4 players for most of the season can make anyone's life hard - except for the UT Rep, "Hmmmm, wonder who I'll pick to play this week" ;) ). At least we have a bigger squad now...yup, all of 5 people :)

Decision Time Part II

Following on from our meeting earlier this week, I have sent MKC's feedback on the proposed league changes to the Bazzas admins along with our map choices (still only 2 have been chosen there however - I'm waiting for more votes to come in [hint!]).

Penultimate League Match Played

Tuesday evening saw us play our penultimate game of the season against CYMRU and it has to be said, it was anything other than straight-forward! More info over on the Match Reports page (where this sort of thing always goes ;)  ).

UPDATE: If you want to read this report again, you'll have to mail me and ask for it (I've removed and 'archived' it for now).

Decision Time

As this season draws to a close, thoughts are already on the next one. The admins are looking at all aspects of the league and have requested feedback from the competing clans on a number of proposed changes. Being the responsible clan we are (ho-ho), we have scheduled a meeting for next Wednesday evening right after our last league match against OTH (8pm kick-off). Can all MKC UT Squad members make the effort to be there please :)

One of the (confirmed) changes may put at least a temporary stop to MKC continuing with the BWUTL: we are stretched as it is with 5 registered and active players but as of next season, each clan is meant to field teams consisting of 5 players per match as opposed to the current 4.

Looks like WE ARE RECRUITING again.
(Think anyone will see that? ......no, you're probably right, they won't ;)  ).

Latest Results

The results from our latest BWUTL match are now up in the usual place.

There are now only 2 weeks to go in the league leaving us matches against CYMRU (next week) and then the rearranged match from earlier in the season, against OTH.

Yeehaw!

MKC played their BWUTL game against Legend Wednesday night, and man, was it a game-and-a-half! There's so much to say about this that I can't do it justice by trying to summarise it here. For those of you who have difficulty in 'reading between the lines', that means go look at the Matches & Schedule page :) (I don't care if you don't have UT, go read the Match Report, I've tried to make it a reasonably interesting read for the 'short attention span' people among you....just make sure you have a few beers or cups of tea to hand.....and a seat wouldn't go amiss either :)

UPDATE: Stats for the games against Legend can be found here:

Another Clan Kicked

Another Clan has been kicked from our division. As I had wondered in an earlier news item (after they defaulted their match against us), Death By Misadventure (a replacement themselves for the Midnite Clan), have been kicked out for repeated no-shows :(

It seems this problem also affects a number of other divisions: The-Borg, the BWUTL Head-Admin, had this to say in a recent email:

"Defaults - There's no denying it but Defaults are killing this league. Take a look at the schedule for this week to see how much an impact clans signing up then simply not bothering to show has had on all of us.
...I know it's extremely annoying for all concerned as when matches do get played we have been treated to some amazing fights.
"

However, he also issues a concerning warning:

"If it carries on like this there will be no league, both clans and admins are wasting their free time only to be let down in the large number of cases. This would be a great shame as I really felt that we were starting to build up a credible league with good prospects for the future but this season has cast some doubt on that."

All in all, there have been FOUR clans removed from the league this week for repeated defaults and a fifth clan submitted their withdrawal from the league claiming they were fed-up with other clans not showing for their matches. This last one is a little hypocritical as the clan concerned didn't even bother to show up for their most recent match (the withdrawal request was sent AFTER the match meaning that their opponents had wasted their time in turning up :(  ).

MKC hasn't defaulted yet (although we only fielded 3 players in this week's match), and I sincerely hope we don't ever default. I'll keep you posted on any further developments.

Bazzas League Game

We have a league game against Legend this week, so go look at the Matches & Schedule page for time and day etc.

Surprisingly, LGD didn't turn up for their game last week, but I still expect them to be there for our game, so please make the effort to be there :)

The European Cup 2000

The recently formed Unreal Tournament Council, has announced plans for their first European Cup over on their 'flashy' website and rather nice it is too.

Nations expected to compete are:

Sweden
Finland
Denmark
Belgium
Holland
Germany
Austria
United Kingdom
Norway

The teams have not been selected yet (the actual Cup itself isn't scheduled to start until September 11th), but each country's Voting Council has to submit their team selections to the UT Council by July 15th.

This seems to be a CTF cup judging by the maps to be played, but it should still be interesting to watch. (A point of interest: Danzanti from VOID is on the UK Voting Council and is the only player I know, but I don't really play much CTF so that's not surprising really).

So, not just Q3 that can boast European competition this year :)

Bring The Revlon Out, Part 2

Yup, I altered the cosmetics again. Hehe.

Trialling This Week

Well, Hex may have a potential UT recruit for MKC and if we can sort things out, we'll get him along to praccy this week and see how he does.

Remember, if anyone sees any players with a little potential (and a good attitude), let me know and I'll see what we can sort out: we still have a few slots open for UT players.

Bring The Revlon Out

"Revlon?!", I hear you scream in horror: has MKC turned into a bunch of make-up wearing women, running around UT in female skins?

Sorry to disappoint certain members of MKC, but no, we haven't >;)

It's a reference to the cosmetic changes I've made to this site (again).
