Historical Record
I've decided (as with a couple of other MKC sites I've designed), to leave this one online as a record of MKC's achievements within the UT arena.
Some of us have indeed played UT2003 and Unreal 2, but MKC has not competed in any leagues for these, instead continuing to concentrate on Quake 3 and more specifically its Rocket Arena mod.
As I've decided to leave this site running, I've taken the opportunity to update the links; the old ngStats website was made redundant when UT's developer Epic, decided to host their own stats website. However, this too has since 'died' and now the 3rd-party site CSPORTS.net is currently the best way to check your performance on UT and indeed most of the other games played online.
UPDATE: Seems that Epic finally found the time to sort out their stats website problems and it is now back up-and-running and can be found at its usual URL.
End of an Unreal Adventure
I'm not going to add anything additional to what is on the main MKC site, or what I've said in emails: MKC's UT adventure has come to a close.
(Yes, this is a terse goodbye, but I've said what I wanted to elsewhere - repetition lowers its value).
League Updates
Sorry folks, I haven't kept up with the last two games of the league but then I have had to battle with a cold and then been away on business for a week :(
I'm afraid I won't be doing any match reports for these last 2 games either: the game against FB can be summed up thus: Shock Rifle. I can't remember seeing such a devestating SR attack as we were confronted with during this match (the maps didn't help there either). We obviously lost this one and the following week's match against Spirit we also lost (both expected losses however). Spirit played a good game and we couldn't match them on the day. Both games were played in a good atmosphere with some of the Spirit players even helping me out with a little Packet Loss problem (I suffered up to 24% packet loss during this game and I'm on ISDN!). Turns out it looks like a vsync problem with the OpenGL driver for UT I'm now using (I hope I've got it sorted now tho...).
Morph Kicked From League
Morph (our division) have been kicked from the BWUTL for failing to turn up to two successive fixtures. Subsequently, all results against Morph have been (and will be) reset to default 30-0 wins on both maps plus 5 points. Unfortunately for us, we had more than a +60 frag difference and scored a lot more than 60 frags in this match, so our effort in that game has ultimately amounted to nothing :( Obviously, this will affect all other clans in that it balances things out, and no clan gains or loses (statistically) from not having played Morph. (We also happen to be the only clan that has actually played Morph this season as they have defaulted both games after Week 1 of this season).
It's a shame as Morph were the only clan we had played against last season that were still in our division this season - would have been interesting to see how we compared to each other this time round :(
Season Predictions
After 3 games played this season, I thought I would have a look at how I think our division will end up after all 7 games have been completed; just to be a little melodramatic, I'll start from last place and work up ;)
Our division now contains 7 teams this season (seeing as Morph have been kicked) as opposed to only 6 last season. Now, seeing as we finished 4th out of 6 teams last time, a comparable finish for us this season, would be to finish 5th or 6th (again, avoiding relegation :) ). Where do I think we'll end up? Read on...
The 'Wooden Spoon' (ie last place) this season I can see heading RSI's way. The only points they have thus far have come from this week's default win against Morph. Realistically, the only hope they have now of winning any more points (barring any more defaults) would be against SLH but to be honest, that's not much hope at all. RSI to finish 7th.
Fourth, fifth and sixth places are a little more awkward to determine. Right now, I think these spots will be filled (in no particular order) by us (MKC), HSC and SLH. MKC and HSC split their games this week but SLH have yet to play either of these two teams. Don't let SLH's current position in the league table (7th, ie last) fool you - the three games they have played have been against the 3 clans I regard as the numbers 1, 2 and 3 in this division. We'll have a much better idea of how things may finish after this week's fixture between HSC and SLH is played.
Third place will be occupied by V3, the Portuguese clan. They've lost to FB and Spirit in the first 3 weeks but not by huge margins, whilst dispatching SLH quite easily. They also have a good bit of experience in UT.
Winning promotion but not quite reaching the top spot, will be FB. Barring any trip-ups, they'll finish here without losing more than 1 match. The one match they have lost was against Spirit but FB have won comfortably against SLH and more importantly V3. FB to finish 2nd.
Which brings us to the Division 3 Champions slot. The Division 3 Champions this season will be Spirit and they'll do it without losing a single game. They've already beaten their main rivals, FB and V3, with only a slight hiccup against SLH (winning by only 8 frags on the Cybrosis][ map).
So, what do we want - 4th, 5th or 6th place? (or "..do you feel lucky?" and want higher? ;) ).
Week 3's Rumble
A day earlier than usual this week, but we played our Week 3 match last night against HSC and what a game it was! Pandemonium is probably a good word to describe it (for the first map anyway). You know where to find the details on this...(or you should by now ;) ).
Next Generation Unreal Engine
I sometimes look at forthcoming games/engines/developments and a few things do actually manage to catch my eye from time to time. Now, seeing as this is a UT site, this next development fits in rather well - the next advancement of the Unreal Engine (it's not called the Unreal2 Engine, although it will power Unreal2 when it makes its appearance). I probably wouldn't have made any mention of it here but for some screenshots which stood out a bit...
The folks over at Epic went and designed a CTF level for UT but utilised the new Unreal Engine instead of the older one that we all have residing on our hard disks. It's really because of this - the merging of current technology/UT with the technology of the near future (the new engine) that caught my attention. The sheer level of detail adds a whole new atmosphere to the gameplay (yes, the technology itself is very impressive but I'm looking at it purely from the gamer's point-of-view). Here's the screenshot that caught my eye first of all (click on it to view the whole picture [reduced-size from original but still 291Kb]):
Blues News are running a mirror containing a zip file with 18 screenshots including terrain (both indoor and outdoor) and the new model. Also over on Blues is the actual mpeg trailer that Epic used to show off the new engine at the ECTS show in London recently (although be warned - it weighs in at a hefty 41.3Mb!).
It looks as though the next Unreal Engine will be able to handle large outdoor areas complete with terrain (a la Tribes) and this is is certainly an improvement in the playability stakes (more variety available).
Second Game Played
Our second match in the BWUTL league took place last night without any hitches (for MKC anyway - the same can't be said for our opponents, RSI: take a look at the Match Report for an explanation).
On a side-note I thought I would just say that the organisation of this league is actually quite good and we've yet to see any problems from that side of things; long may it continue :)
Games Inferno Sur-5-vor League Details Added
The folks over at Games Inferno (whose servers we use for praccies) have started up a DM League for UT called the Sur-5-vor League. The 5 in the name is actually relevant and not just a little l33t-speak: it's a 5v5 league as opposed to the other main leagues which typically run a 4v4 format. If you're interested you can compare this new league's rules to all the other major UT leagues over on the League Rules page on this site. (Not sure I like the idea of the aggregate score being used to determine the match winner over two different maps though...).
New League Season Underway
It's finally started - the new BWUTL season got underway this past Tuesday, with our opening game played on the Wednesday against MORPH. Details are over on the Matches & Schedule page with a report presented on the Match Reports page (straight-forward that isn't it? :) ).
Can't Help It....
..ummm...yup, I've been messing about with this site again *heehee*. If anyone can't read it then you're out of luck aren't you? I mean there's no point in me leaving a message here saying 'mail me' if you can't read that in the first place is there?? ;)
Get 'em Quick! Part 2
Not that anyone gives a monkey's, but I've sorted out the ftp space issue (for the time being) and therefore, all of our demos in the Members Area have been given a reprieve. That means you can still download them (should you ever lose your local copy and actually want to watch one of these demos *shock horror*).
